Liner notes

At the Sands, 1966

Sinatra at the Sands was recorded at the Copa Room of the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in 1966, with Count Basie and his orchestra, the arrangements and the baton by Quincy Jones. It was his first live album to be released.

The room

The Copa Room was a supper club: tables close to the stage, a band on the bandstand behind the singer. Between the songs he talks to the room, and the talk is on the record too.

Bringing it back

Our Sands evening keeps the shape of that night: a seventeen-piece band, the Basie charts and the songs in the order of the record.
